Heavenly Home Littles

Shia loves Saturdays. Saturdays mean donuts. When she woke up on Saturday morning, she asked right away, “Donuts?” Mama said, “Not today. Daddy and I have something different planned.” Shia’s face fell. Different felt like no, and that made her sad. Shia didn’t want something different. She wanted donuts. She cried and held onto Mama, and Mama held her close.

Soon Shia calmed and Mama wiped her tears. “Come see,” she said. They got in the car and drove past places Shia knew, until they parked somewhere new. When Shia looked up, her eyes got big. Animals. Big ones. Loud ones. Funny ones. “Zoo!” she said, smiling.

Mama smiled back. “Sometimes good things don’t look the way we expect at first”, she said softly. “But that doesn’t mean they aren’t good.”
